Bespoke Furniture Making
One-off furniture pieces for private interiors, crafted in our London joinery atelier.
Studio Introduction
Our workshop operates as a heritage craftsman's studio, producing bespoke furniture for private residential interiors. Each piece is designed and made to order, reflecting the specific requirements of the space and the client's vision.
The approach combines traditional joinery techniques with contemporary design sensibilities. We work directly with architects, interior designers, and private clients to realise furniture that integrates seamlessly into its intended environment.
Materials are selected for their inherent qualities and appropriateness to the design. The making process emphasises precision, attention to detail, and the development of a relationship between material, form, and function.

Design and Making Approach
The design process begins with understanding the architectural context and the client's requirements. Initial discussions establish the functional needs, aesthetic preferences, and material considerations.
Design development involves sketching, technical drawings, and material samples. We produce detailed joinery drawings that specify dimensions, materials, and construction methods. These drawings serve as the basis for making.
In the workshop, traditional hand tools work alongside modern machinery. The emphasis remains on skilled handwork, particularly in joinery, shaping, and finishing. Each stage of making is considered carefully, with time allowed for the material to be worked appropriately.
The relationship between design and making is continuous. Adjustments may be made during construction as the material reveals its characteristics or as the piece develops. This flexibility is part of the bespoke process.

Custom-made or selected hardware in brushed brass. Handles, hinges, and other fittings.
Selected Works
Craftsmanship Heritage
Our approach to furniture making draws from traditional British joinery techniques, refined through generations of practice. Each joint is cut with precision, each surface finished by hand.
The workshop maintains a collection of traditional hand tools alongside modern machinery, allowing for both efficiency and the subtle character that handwork imparts to wood.
This combination of traditional methods and contemporary design creates furniture that feels both timeless and relevant to modern interiors.
Collaborative Process
We work closely with clients, architects, and interior designers throughout the design and making process. Initial discussions establish the functional requirements and aesthetic direction.
Design development involves regular communication, with drawings and samples presented for review. This collaborative approach ensures that the final piece meets both practical needs and design intentions.
Material Selection
Timber is selected from sustainable sources, with attention to grain pattern, colour, and figure. Each board is chosen for its specific role in the piece, whether structural or visible.
The selection process considers how the wood will appear in the finished piece, how it will age over time, and how it complements other materials used in the design.
Finishing Details
Surface Preparation
Surfaces are prepared using hand planes and scrapers, creating a smooth finish that reveals the wood's natural character. Machine marks are removed, and the surface is refined to the desired texture.
Finish Application
Finishes are applied by hand, building up thin coats that protect the wood while enhancing its appearance. The finish choice responds to the wood species and the piece's intended use.
Hardware Fitting
Hardware is fitted with precision, ensuring smooth operation and visual alignment. Custom-made or carefully selected handles and hinges contribute to the piece's overall character.
